Understanding the Piike Index: How We Rate Divers

The Piike Index is our attempt to create a comprehensive rating for competitive divers that goes beyond simple score averages. Here's how it works: Execution (40%) — This is the largest component because ultimately, how well you perform your dives matters most. We normalize scores across different meet contexts to account for judging variability. Degree of Difficulty (25%) — Competing with a harder list matters. This component rewards divers who push their DD while maintaining solid execution. Consistency (20%) — Measured by the inverse of score standard deviation. The best divers produce reliable results meet after meet. Versatility (10%) — Coverage across the six dive groups (Forward, Back, Reverse, Inward, Twist, Armstand). Divers who compete across more groups score higher. Context (5%) — Placement quality — podiums, wins, and how you perform relative to the field. The Piike Index is currently in BETA and will be refined as we gather more data. We welcome feedback from coaches and athletes.
